CALENDAR OF UPCOMING EVENTS:

MEETING: The meeting was called to order by Lou McNett at 8:10.

SICK AND AILING:

Dave Dano is recovering from his treatments for prostate cancer.
Ken Creech’s daughter has lymphoma and is undergoing treatment for this issue. She had twins just a year ago
Dennis Gardner is recovering from cancer treatments

Lou McNett’s sister, Beverly Wilson passed away on June 14th. The club expresses our condolences to Lou and his family.

Please keep the above individuals in your thoughts and prayers.

CHANGES COMING:

The board has been working on by laws and rules and regs changes over the past few months. Draft copies will be presented at the July meeting. They will also be presented in the newsletter.

REGARDING THE LEASE LANDS:

1.) NOTICE: DO NOT cut any standing timber on club property. Even if the tree is dead. You can cut wood that has fallen to the ground but no standing timber. We have had a couple of incidents that have caused the new owners to raise concerns. Please, lets respect the landowners wishes.

2.) From the landowners: DO NOT ride in any gravel pits, or cross streams that do not have either a bridge or the crushed limestone.

3.) Please do not contact the new landowners directly. If you have questions or concerns about our lease lands, please bring them to the club meeting or contact Lou McNett. He will forward the questions to the landowners if he cannot answer them.

4.) Make sure you have ID on you when on club property. Please show your ID when asked and ask for ID. This is our club.

At the meeting it was announced that the roads have been repaired and the east gate repaired.

TIM HOWELL is STILL looking for a co-chairman for roads and trails to help with the newly acquired Williamstown property. The trails are quite a mess and will need a lot of work before we can use them.

KIDS TROUT DERBY: The derby will be held on Saturday, June 28th. You can start in the morning, but be back to the clubhouse by noon for weigh in and dinner. There is no need to pre-register so you can start anytime in the morning. At noon the club will provide food and drink for the people that attended. Prizes will be handed out at this time. If you have any donations, please contact Kevin Irwin.

WORK DAYS: As we head into the warmer weather there are many opportunities for a workday:

Tim Howell needs people to clear trails on the Williamstown property as well as the Little John area. Kevin Irwin (B&G chairman) has many projects around the clubhouse
Ralph Gregory needs help mowing the lawns
Bob Shelmindine needs people to post the property.

Bill Killam (Archery shoot chairman) needs help with the archery shoot in July.
We would like to hear from people who would like to provide janitor service for the clubhouse as a workday. Call Kevin Irwin or Lou McNett.
Charlie Parker is looking for volunteers to man the Federation booths at the Oswego County fair. The fair dates are July 2nd through the 6th.
Bill Killam is also looking for volunteers to sell raffle tickets at the Oswego County Fair.

Phone numbers of the committee chairman are listed at the bottom of the newsletter.

REMEMBER all workdays need to be recorded in the workday log by the committee chairman. You will not get credit for a workday if you sign the log yourself. If you know of other projects you can contact the associated committee chairman and get the go ahead.

FAMILY PICNIC: The family picnic is now scheduled for Sunday, September 7th. The picnic will start at 11:00am. The chairman for this event is Brain Smith. Brain wants people to bring a dish to pass. Brian has not set a ticket price yet as he is working on the prices of the meat. Brian will be asking for volunteers to help with setup and take down of the picnic. This is a good opportunity for a workday. You can call Brian at 625-7035 to volunteer. Tickets will be available at the August meeting. He is also asking that people donate a basket with different household, our sporting good items for raffles and kids games.

4-Wheeler Weekend: This annual event will be held the weekend of August 23rd. There will be a chicken BBQ and tentatively the price will be $4/dinner. This is dependent on the cost of the chickens. Steve Corsett is again the chairman. Steve needs your reservations in by August 14th so he can ensure he gets enough chicken. Annual Gun Raffle: Mark Bishop is the chairman for the raffle and he stated the raffle would start in September. This year it will be all guns. Mark started handing out tickets at the June meeting. He is asking that all money and ticket stubs be back to him by August 1st. Please contact Mark/Janine Bishop at phone 288-4248 or email jwetmor1@twcny.rr.com for tickets.

Archery Shoot: This event will be held on July 19th and 20th. This is a major event for the club as it brings in people from all around and vendors. Bill Killam is the chairman and right now he is the only one working this event. He has asked for help and would greatly appreciate any and all people. He has projects like: clearing trails, painting the archery tower, clubhouse preps and kitchen help. If you can help out, please call Bill and get involved in a great event.

Bill has several raffles he is running for this event:
1.) A $10/ticket raffle for a Creed XS Bow
2.) A $5/ticket raffle for a custom made rod and reel 3.) A $5/ticket raffle for a MRC deer print

FISH FRY: Friday, July 18th the club will host a fish fry as a start to the Archery Shoot weekend. The dinner will start at 4:00pm and the cost of a dinner will be $10.00.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: It was brought to the attention of the club that one member brought on almost 20 guest 4-wheelers on the club property. Per our current rules and regs. to bring on multiple guest you need to get permission from a board member. This rule does not apply to members bringing on family members. The board is currently in the process of submitting changes to the rules and regs. The new changes will include a limit of 5 guest wheelers with one member.

Sportsman’s Federation Report:

The Mad River Club’s support of the New York State Conservation Council is greatly appreciated. This year is the second year of the Albany two year legislative cycle. Please look for and support the added initiative in support or opposition of legislation as needed. The NYSCC policies are all formed from the consensus of sportsmen like the MRC. The supporting voices of the sportsmen helps in the success of achieving our goals.

ITEMS OF INTEREST:

Cross-bows are now legal:
Governor Cuomo signed the annual budget bill for 2014-15 which includes language authorizing the use

of crossbows for hunting under certain circumstances. Below is a summary of this new law. DEC will draft regulations in the near future, and will implement the new law in time for this fall’s hunting seasons. DEC will include all crossbow updates in the 2014-2015 Guide to Hunting and Trapping Laws & Regulations, available when licenses go on sale in August 2014. For the complete summary please check out www.dec.ny.gov, as the complete summary was too lengthy to put in the newsletter.

GARBAGE: It was reported at the club meeting that there have been beer/soda cans and other debris left on the club trails. One member went and picked up a garbage bag full of this garbage from the trails. Please use your best judgment while on the club. As a club we have a good repertoire with the new owners and it would be a shame to tarnish our reputation over something that is so easy to avoid.

Camp for Kids: Dick Brock is the chairman. If you have any questions you can contact Dick.

Williamstown Property Camp: There is one camp available on the new property in Williamstown. If you think you would like to use it this year please call Schuyler Hellings at 315-439-3496. He said the camp needs to be cleaned but is usable. You will only be able to access this camp by 4-wheeler as the road is rough due to some recent logging.

Hunter Safety Courses: The DEC website has the hunter safety courses listed.
Hunting Instructors: Dave Dano is looking for 10 volunteers to become hunter safety instructors. If you

think this is something you would like to do, then please contact Dave Dano.
