Making Adjustments to the PDF – Please Disregard

My Apologies

I (Rick) missed a very important point in this newsletter. The Trout Stocking that is being subsidized by Woodwise, is a great benefit to our club. Duane Cole has been very instrumental in making this happen for us. Duane is the Chair of the Trout Stocking Committee. Thank you Duane for making this possible for MRC.

Help Needed This Saturday

Help is needed with the Trout Derby this Saturday! Please call Joe Iauco at 315-487-7193. This event is for our kids. Please come out and lend a hand.

Chuck Parker gave a presentation on the many bills being presented before our lawmakers in Albany. Many of the bills do not help the sportsmen/sportswomen in this state. It is my opinion that this bill has the potential to be misused by law enforcement. Other bills being presented include the schools in our state removing all shooting sports for the schools. These are just two of the examples that were presented. For further information please see the Federation Website for links and news. The Grassroots Newsletter has some good information regarding what is going on with the DEC regarding hunting and fishing in this state.

FEDERATION NEWS: Chuck Parker gave a presentation on the many bills being presented before our law makers in Albany. Many of the bills do not help the sportsmen/sportswomen in this state. Chuck made it clear that we as sports people need to contact our representatives to make our voices heard. As an example, the Red Flag bill went through the legislature in about 9 days.

FEDERATION DINNER: Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs is holding their Annual Banquet on April 6th at Greenview Country Club, 20 Whig Hill Rd., West Monroe, NY.  Social hour begins at 4:30pm, with a Prime rib dinner following at 6:00 pm.  Tickets are $25.00 per adult, $12.00 per child 12 and under. We keep working with the DEC to get repairs done to the Caledonia Hatchery and it looks like this might start.

Send donations to NYSCC 8 East Main Street, Illion, NY 13357-1899.

A message from Bill Gibson- NYSCC Legislative Vice President (retired)

In regards to our upcoming elections: “The name of the game is turnout. A look at past elections shows how a relatively small change in voter turnout can have a major impact on the election results and thus future legislation. And remember that sins once committed are not easily undone-think the SAFE Act. “

NYS Conservation Council Report: (per Charlie Parker NYS Conservation Council President)

The federation report stated the need for every sportsmen to support the New York State Conservation Council.  The “Council” is the oldest Sportsmen / Conservation groups that advocates for mainly for the New York State Sportsmen and Conservationists.  The Mad River Club is a strong supporter but we as individual sportsmen can do more.  There are two options that all should consider.  One is becoming a Guardian or Defender Member.  The other is for those that use Amazon. Sign up through Amazon Smile and select the New York State Conservation Council as a recipient, and for each purchase you make using Amazon Smile, a portion is donated to the NYS Conservation Council.  For information on either of the above ways to support the Council go to  http://www.nyscc.com/_index.php   NYSCC CONSERVATION EDUCATION COMMITTEE INVITES SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN INPUT At the recent NYSCC annual Spring/Legislative meetings in Herkimer, Conservation Education Committee chair Keith Tidball announced plans to survey hunters, anglers, trappers, and other outdoor recreationalists regarding their preferences for what specific issues or topics the committee should direct their focus upon. The survey is intended for wide distribution; all county federation members, sportsmen’s club members, and those interested in the out-of-doors are encouraged to participate. Here is the link to the web-based survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LBQKCSC   The ability to follow legislation concerning sportsmen can be a tedious and sometimes boring task.  But it is still important that we be aware, as best we can as to what is gong on in Albany Fortunately the New York State Conservation Council does a lot of the “following” for you. With the Council’s website much of that information is easily available to you.  Just go to http://www.nyscc.com/legislativeinformation.html or http://www.nyscc.com/legislativeinformation/memoandstatements.html and you can follow legislative bills and the current positions that the NYSCC has taken on various bills.   REMEMBER SUPPORT THE COUNCIL     Chuck Parker     One of the recent bills that was mentioned at the Last MRC Meeting was   MEMORANDUM IN OPPOSITION Bill #  S 7874   Kaminsky     No same as Title: Limits educational institution’s ability to authorize the possession of a weapon on school grounds to certain officers or agents of a law enforcement agency. This is a terrible bill that the Council strongly opposes. Fortunately at this time it is only a one house bill.  Visit http://www.nyscc.
